Never a good sign for a character to be this cocky!
Rick’s not cocky (though I guess that’s a matter of opinion lol), he just doesn’t have the passion for his career that some of his colleague’s share. Simply put, he’s in it for the steady paycheck.

No no! lol The skull on his shoulder is cocky! The character itself is…well, mostly average. Has a family, he doesn’t stand out too much, so, unless there’s some kind of deux ex machina in here, he’s probably gonna die.

I love this comic!
One of the first rules for staying alive as a comic character — when about to be sent on a dangerous mission, NEVER talk about how much you look forward to seeing your family again after.
At this point the only things he can do to make it worse is pull out an actual picture of his family and tell her how it helps him keep going… Or be one day away from retirement. 
It happens every time.
Every time you’re watching a movie, reading a book, or scrolling through a webcomic, they’ll build up sympathy for this one person and make everyone like them and set them up as a really great, happy person, most likely with a family, and then suddenly, SPLOOTSCH! “I’m sorry, but the character you appear to be looking for has recently been terminated.”
NOT TRUE! Independence Day! He talked about loving and marrying his girlfriend, and he totally lived through that mission!
A small nit-pick here, but “you are” is contracted to “you’re”, not “your”. It should be “I bet you’re excited”, as I highly doubt that she is betting his “excited” (whatever that is).
