I mean, it’ll cost an arm and a leg to clean up this mess.

What no SAM (Surface -to-Air-Missiles) or anti-air craft weaponry on the base?
Is it a military base? They were evacuating, rather than rushing for the AA guns
They mightn’t have had the resources to arm the base. Or they mightn’t have thought it necessary if they thought they weren’t going to be discovered
It has defenses set in place, but nothing much as the stronghold is still fairly new. Right now, since they’ve been discovered by Earth they are just trying to get the hell out of dodge. Seeing as they house civilians on the base they are putting all their efforts into evacuating everyone.
This whole sequence has really only just begun, you’ll see a lot more as the chapter progresses.
